Cost and Pricing | Finding A Pool Contractor | Installation & Construction
Ok, pools and cars are both seen as status symbols…they’re both relatively expensive…and they both come with a wide array of bells and whistles. There’s a lot in common there. So you should go about purchasing them the same way right?...Nope!

Don't blindly wonder if a fiberglass, concrete, or vinyl liner pool is right for you. Our educational ebook does a deep-dive comparison of the 3 types, all while noting the advantages and disadvantages of each.
You know what one of my biggest pet peeves is? Floaties in my drink. And with five kids I know that if I give someone a sip, there’s going to be some backwash going on! I can cope with giving up my ice cold soda, but there’s another type of backwashing that annoys pool owners on a weekly basis. You know what I’m talking about…sand filters. No, there’s nothing wrong with sand filters. Heck, I grew up on them. But geesh, it just seems like such a waste of resources. Let’s take a closer look.

Many people naturally assume that all pool companies close during the winter (I guess the idea of installing a swimming pool in January does seem a little odd.) However, many pool companies, like ours for example, install inground pools year round. We have this love/hate relationship with the winter months. It’s a chance to catch our breath from the rush of the pool season, but because people aren’t exactly thinking about swimming when it’s 30 degrees outside, they aren’t beating the doors down to buy pools. Hence, the highly coveted winter discount.

Pool Closing/Winterization | Pool Maintenance
Just a quicky here for any fiberglass pool owner who has a solid winter cover, or any cover that does NOT allow water to pass through it. Just to review here, mesh security covers allow water through, solid security covers do not, standard tarp winter covers do not either. This applies to the solid and the tarp.

One of the most under-utilized options for fiberglass pools (in my opinion) is the coping material. Many people assume that cantilevered concrete coping is the only alternative…simply not so. The purpose of this article is to outline the two most popular types of coping on fiberglass pools (at least in our area). These are paver coping, or what could be considered brick coping, and cantilevered concrete coping. We’ll look at the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Fiberglass Pool Information | Pool Maintenance
We’ve all seen an increase in the “blow-up ring” pools peppering backyards across the country. Heck, I’d say that at least half of the time when we show up to install an inground fiberglass pool, there’s a circular imprint on the ground where a blow-up pool used to be.

DIY Fiberglass Pools | Finding A Pool Contractor | Installation & Construction | Retaining Walls, Fence, and Landscaping
Lately it seems that a lot of homeowners I am meeting with have slopes in their backyards. Some of these slopes range in a grade difference of 1’ to 6’ from where the pool deck starts and finishes. What this means is that your fiberglass pool, when set in the ground, may be even with the ground on one end or side and 1 to 6 feet out of the ground on the other end or side. In such occasions, retaining walls are often the necessary solution, although moving the pool to another more flat location can at times work as well. I had one customer who could have moved their pool to an area in the backyard that would have alleviated any walls, but they wanted the added visual effect the walls would give them.

Check out this quick video of a custom security cover installation on an inground fiberglass pool with an 18" poolside wall and elevated paver patio. As you will see, the cover anchors into the elevated patio then stretches taut across the pool.

Ask yourself a quick question: Have you ever made this statement of your home? “Geesh, I wish the steps leading to the upstairs were closer to the front door?” Chances are you haven’t. But notwithstanding, the single biggest design hang-up that folks encounter, especially with fiberglass pools, is the notion that the steps of the pool need to be as close as possible to the entrance of the pool area.
