Having been in the swimming pool industry for eight years now and after having installed about 600 fiberglass pools of various manufacturers, the owners of River Pools and Spas have made tremendous efforts to educate the swimming pool consumer community over the years. Four months ago though, when these owners decided to start a swimming pool education blog, they had no idea of the impact it would have on their website. Nor did they realize the general impact it would have on the fiberglass pool industry.

Ok, so this is one of those articles where some readers might argue that I'm extremely biased because I sell fiberglass pools and so therefore the points herein aren't relevant. Frankly though, I pride myself in being one of the few ‘pool guys' who will often times recommend to a shopper that they choose another product other than my own. Let me give you an example.

The inground swimming pool market has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. For example, there was a time in the 1980s and '90s that vinyl liner pools were the most popular inground pool choice in the Northeast part of the United States. With so many liner pools having been installed during this time, many of these same pool owners are now being confronted with a choice: Should I continue to replace my vinyl liner even though the structure of my pool is also starting to look really bad? Or should I just get a fiberglass pool shell and insert it where the old pool was?
