The inground swimming pool market has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. For example, there was a time in the 1980s and '90s that vinyl liner pools were the most popular inground pool choice in the Northeast part of the United States. With so many liner pools having been installed during this time, many of these same pool owners are now being confronted with a choice: Should I continue to replace my vinyl liner even though the structure of my pool is also starting to look really bad? Or should I just get a fiberglass pool shell and insert it where the old pool was?

If you have gone as far as to speak to an owner of an inground fiberglass pool they probably said something like "...they said it would be low maintenance, but I had no idea how easy the pool would actually be to take care of. Fiberglass pools are unique...at least when it comes to waterline tile (also called perimeter tile). With a gunite pool, waterline tile is required to avoid a waterline staining, and tile is certainly not an option with an inground vinyl liner pool. Only inground fiberglass pools give you the choice of going with a waterline tile or leaving the pool shell exposed above the waterline.
