How Do I Find A Local Pool Contractor Who Is Fair and Dependable?
Before diving into the list, let's discuss a basic strategy that will help you determine which St. Louis pool contractor might be the best fit for you.
Based on our experience, when it comes finding a great pool contractor, the proof is in the pudding. And it all boils down to one question: how happy are their customers?
By default, if their customers are happy the following must be true:
- They offer quality products
- They provide excellent customer service
- They are knowledgeable
- Their prices are fair
- They stand behind their work
- They run on schedule and keep their commitments
But how can you find out how satisfied their customers are?
Here are two easy steps:
Step One: The Interview with The Pool Builder
Ask the pool builder how many pools they installed last year, then how many since they have been in business. Then ask them how many of these customers they can provide as references. Obviously, the more references, the better. The way we see it, a pool builder should be able to provide virtually all of their customers on their reference list. Whatever percentage of customers make it on the list is exactly what percentage chance you have of being happy with them.
Also, be sure to ask the pool builder about problem resolution. Ask what is the biggest problem they have had on a project and how they overcame it. Tough question? You bet, but you are about to hand your backyard, and a ton of your hard-earned money over to this person!
Step Two: Calling References
When calling references, here are some questions to consider:
- If you could do it over, would you use the pool builder again?
- What did you enjoy about the experience?
- What was least enjoyable?
- What pool, options, and accessories did you choose?
- What would you do differently?
- How did the pool builder handle challenges and problems when they arose?
We have found that a happy customer has no problem with people calling and asking such questions. If fact, customers tell us all the time, "make sure I get on that reference list!".
What about the BBB and other online resources like Facebook, Google reviews, etc. for gathering information about swimming pool contractors in St Louis?
The more sources the better. However, do not rely solely on these platforms because they will only give you a tiny sample of what the contractor is all about. For the amount of money you will invest, it is worth it to take the time to ask for, and call references. As you talk with actual pool owners, it will also help you gain insights into your own project that you would not get otherwise.
